Christmas Cards For Kids To Make

Making simple Christmas cards with the kids is one of my favourite family Christmas traditions as the night draws in at the end of November.

It’s a lovely Christmas craft activity for children and really doesn’t have to be super complicated and uber crafty or involve you doing most of the work …

There are actually loads of super fun but very simple Christmas cards kids can make with little or no help from everyday craft supplies you already have at home.

Or for a more zero waste Christmas from recycled household items.

So I have for you here a collection of my favourite super simple Christmas cards even little kids can truly make themselves. There are both family Christmas card ideas and Christmas card ideas for schools.

You will find fun ideas covering everything from Rudolf, Santa and snowmen to angels and the nativity plus lots of opportunities for different craft activities as part of the making including :

  • Potato prints
  • Hand prints
  • Finger prints
  • Foot prints
  • Collages
  • Buttons
  • Washi tape & more …

I do hope you find some Christmas cards you love for your kids or class to make. If you enjoy these ideas, please do share for other people to discover.

Finger Print Christmas Cards

Little finger prints can be turned into everything from elves to Rudolf with the help of a sharpie.

But aren’t these robins from Rylands, Peters & Small the cutest?

Finger Print Angel Cards

These finger print angels are a bit different but still very cute …

Hand Print Christmas Cards

Hand print Christmas cards can be super cute and are a lovely mark making exercise for young children. Hand printing cards is inevitably messy but there are also lots of simple hand cut out Christmas cards kids can have fun making.

Rudolf Hand Print Cards

We’ve been making these Rudolf handprint Christmas cards since my daughter was tiny.

Nativity Hand Print Cards

Older kids can still enjoy making handprints cards like this fab manger from Crafty Morning.

Christmas Gnome Hand Print Cards

These little hand cut out Christmas gnome cards are very cute and you could easily adapt the idea for Santa cards …

Angel Hand Print Cards

Alternatively these Angel hand print cards are a clever idea for using hand prints but very simple …

Foot Print Christmas Cards

If you’ve got the mental energy for some real mess, foot print cards really are a lot of fun.

Just remember you need to do them in two stages. Firstly the footprints which then need to dry. And only after they are dry, the final decorating.

There’s all sorts of ways to be creative with footprint Christmas cards but these examples are real winners both with the kids making them and the recipients.

Snowman Footprint Cards

These snowman footprint cards are super cute and the buttons are sweet touch if you have any lying around you can recycle …

Rudolf Footprint Cards

I love the pom pom nose on these Rudolf foot print cards from Emma Owl but if you don’t have any don’t worry, a splodge of paint will do just as well …

Just remember with these – and the finger print and hand print Christmas cards – to leave them to dry before adding extras.

Some of ours have ended very splodgy because little fingers were just so impatient to stick stuff on!

Christmas Collage Cards Ford Kids

Gluing & Sticking Collage Cards

This fantastic collage making Christmas card craft for kids is a brilliant way for children to have loads of fun making a big batch of Christmas cards.

You don’t need any fancy craft supplies just some kitchen foil and old scraps of tissue paper or gift wrap. Even tiny toddlers can help make the big collage and then you or older kids can cut out the trees …

Collage Christmas Card Crafts For Kids

Torn Tissue Paper Tree Cards

These simple Christmas cards even little kids can make without much if any help are a fun Christmas craft activity for toddlers, pre-schoolers and kindergarten kids at home and in the classroom.

They are a great way to use up tatty remains of tissue paper.

And actually provide some cool opportunities for developing fine motor and size sorting skills …

Cake Paper Snowmen Cards

Christmas craft activities for kids that make do and make wonderful with stuff you already have around the house are a clever way to have a cheaper Christmas on a budget and old unused, but slightly tatty cake papers make a handy Christmas craft supply.

They give you ready cut circles with a bit of texture and can be used in all sorts of simple hand made cards like these super snowmen …

Paint Chip Christmas Tree Cards

If you’ve not got the energy for wet paint everywhere – heh, that’s allowed! – these paint chip Christmas cards from One Little Project are for you. Just grab some samples from your local hardware store, cut and stick …

Snowman Christmas Cards

Oh my goodness!

These cotton wool snowman Christmas cards from Nurture Store take me back. I used to make ones just like them with my mum and I think she might even have one still in her loft!

Stamped Christmas Cards

Duplo Print Christmas Cards

These Duplo print Christmas cards are a super quick low prep Christmas craft activity with pre-schoolers. Simply cut out some green card trees and then let them print away.

It can even be a bit of a colour mixing activity as if you stick to primary colours, children can start to see how others colours are formed when the primary colours mix …

Leaf Print Christmas Tree Cards

These leaf print Christmas tree cards are a lovely way to explore nature as part of a Christmas craft activity and again involve almost no prep.

Just grab some white card, some leaves and paint and you’re ready to go …

Potato Print Christmas Cards

You can’t get simpler than these potato print baubles from Crafty Morning.

And I just love these potato print Christmas tree cards from Nurture Store – beautifully simple with nothing more than some green paint and a few sparkles.

Q Tip Christmas Cards

If you’ve got a kid who loves tiny fine motor activities, these q tip Christmas cards from Makes and Takes are perfect …

If you’re looking for more fine motor activities do check out all the lovely ideas here.

Button Christmas Cards

Buttons are another of our big Christmas faves.

And these button snowman Christmas cards from Dee Dee Campbell are adorable.

Washi Tape Christmas Cards

OK.

So washi tape – just in case you’ve not discovered it – is the best friend ever of tired AND not very crafty mothers! It’s my fall back for easy Christmas decorations every year.

And we always make these simple washi tape Christmas cards inspired by Bine Brandle.

But my almost 8 year old – who draws better than her mum! – is super excited about trying these this year from Molly Moo Crafts … aren’t they cool?

Wrapping Paper Christmas Cards

My final simple Christmas card kids can make are these lovely trees from Buggy and Buddy.

Now her version does involve marble painting which is a lovely activity for a soggy afternoon.

But if time and inspiration fails you, you could always just cut up all those scraps of gift wrap you’ve been saving since last Christmas!

It’s a fab way to use up that paper on Christmas cards even the littlest of kids will love making.

I do hope you enjoy these. Do come back and let me know what your kids make.
