(This post includes affliate links, read here how they work.)
Every year, as the nights draw in, I look forward to lovely slow weekends in November and December making Christmas decorations.
We’ve have had so much pleasure from making simple stuff from pine cones, twigs and ribbons.
But so often life just gets in the way, doesn’t it?
All the relentless day to day stuff that still has to get done.
Never mind the hurly burly of Christmas.
And I have to confess – when everything gets hectic – any crafting skills, I might have, go out the window and I discover those supposedly simple Christmas decorations I found on Pinterest are anything but simple!
And there’s not a chance of my 7 year old helping out with them.
Which was the big idea in the first place.
But over the years I have discovered one totally reliable trick for making genuinely simple Christmas decorations that kids can help with – or even do themselves!
And that trick is washi tape!
With a small collection of washi tape – and it honestly doesn’t have to be fancy stuff, my stash certainly isn’t – you can whip up all sorts of simple homemade Christmas decorations.
Even if you feel like you’ve got no time.
Or budget.
Or you’re not a bit crafty!
These are just a few of my faves …
Advent Calendars
These Advent Calendar treat bags from The Fox and Star are incredibly simple but look fab jazzed up with bits of washi tape to hold them fast and decorate the pegs.
And although, this Advent Calendar from lovely Italian blog Pink Frilly looks a bit complicated – it’s still pretty straightforward with all the decoration of the little paper houses done with washi tape.
Christmas Card Tree
The next challenge after the Advent Calendar is always how to hang the cards.
This washi tape Christmas tree from Thyme is Honey really stands out but again is super simple …
