We totally adore the Mary Poppins film. And must have watched it a zillion times.
I’ve even seen the musical.
But had never read P.L. Travers’ original book. More fool us.
‘Cos it’s great. And it has a very different feel from the film.
It’s a bit darker – Mary Poppins is not Julie Andrews cheerie – and fabulously more surreal. Particularly, some of the end chapters that don’t make it into the film.
No total spoilers here, but think a night at the zoo with animals out of their cages and a deliciously, delightful star who comes down to earth but forgets to bring her purse …
If like us, you haven’t read P.L.Travers Mary Poppins (USA), do give it a go.
We can’t wait to get our hands on the rest of the series.
