Simple DIY Toy Storage Idea

January 30, 2017 by Alice 2 Comments

Easily organize kids toys with this genius DIY dollar store hack. It may be a budget solution - cheaper than IKEA - but it’s a brilliant way to tame the clutter of soft toys, bricks, trains and more in the living room, bedroom or playroom. And even works in small spaces. #organize #clutter #storage #playroom #toys
Kids got too many toys? Errr … yep.

Fed up of near breaking your ankle daily from tripping over them? Yep!

But nowhere in your house to store them all? Yep again!

Now obviously, we could all be brutal and chuck the stuff out.

But some of these toys are seriously good. I love our bricks and train track and marble run and our meccano. It’s all great stuff.

They just don’t get played with ‘cos they’re all jumbled up and we can’t find the pieces.

Or at least they didn’t, until I discovered this seriously awesome cheap DIY toy storage idea. It’s a brilliant way to organise toys in kids bedroom or nursery but is also a super useful toy storage solution in living rooms especially if you’re trying to organise cars, trucks & bulky toys in a small space without losing your marbles!!

I also found this simple toy storage solution helped the whole family to tidy up fast as part of an easy daily cleaning routine and help tame our clutter chaos as we gently declutter it.

I really hope this cheap toy storage hack helps you tame the chaos in your home. For more help do check out my other simple cleaning routines, checklists & tips and if you’re a Pinterest fan follow my cleaning hacks & schedules board which is chock full of brilliant simple cleaning tips.

Simple DIY Toy Storage Solution

Like all the best tips, this DIY toy storage idea is pillaged from a friend.

And I promise you, it is truly genius.

Especially, if like me – like all Londoners? – you feel as if you’re living in the tiniest of very tiny rabbit hutches with no room for fancy-schmancy, toy storage units.

The secret – just in case you haven’t grasped it from the pics – is laundry bags!

Yep, cheap as chips laundry bags – you can pick up from your local store – make a fab, simple toy storage solution that will help keep all those trucks & cars or train track pieces or bricks or marble run extensions in one place.

You can shove all sorts of odd shaped toys in them and then store the bags away in toy boxes, behind sofas, under beds, under the stairs, wherever. And yet those great toys you love won’t get forgotten because both you and even very little children can easily see what’s inside the bags.

Being able to see inside is the absolute key to great toy storage because it lets us simply rotate toys Montessori style even if we don’t have the space for Montessori open shelved toy storage.

But that’s not all that’s great about this fab little toy storage hack. These simple storage bags are also brilliantly helpful when you need to tidy up fast as a family. Even very small children can enjoy running around the room for a few minutes at the end of the day sorting the right toys into the right bag as part of an easy daily cleaning routine.

It’s a great little sorting activity and will get the whole family to help you get on top of clutter and keep your home cleaner without it feeling like a big chore. What’s not to like?

So as I say, this simplest of DIY toy storage ideas really is pure genius. I do hope it saves saves your sanity as much as it has mine.
