This post includes affliate links, read here how these work.
There are more and more fab eco friendly brands around.
So it's easier and easier to use the power of our purse to help the planet.
Hurrah!
BUT it turns out, planes schlepping stuff around the world for us - however green and lovely the eco brand itself! - are a massive cause of pollution.
So one of the most super powered planet-friendly things we can do is buy local.
And luckily there are brilliant British eco brands out there.
Offering everything from food, make up and cleaning stuff to toys and clothes.
And EVEN fancy fair trade, organic knickers! How cool is that?
Week by week I am going to share lists of my fave eco brands ... sign up for my newsletter so you don't miss any ... starting this week with every day household goods.
I know. I know. NOT the most exciting.
BUT this is the stuff we all buy week in, week out.
So buying an eco friendly brand. Especially a British one.
Makes a massive difference!
7 Great British Eco Friendly Household Brands
1. Ethical Superstore
OK. So first up is Ethical Superstore.
Now, they don't actually make anything.
BUT they - with Big Green Smile below - are your gateway to the best of British ethical brands.
They stock all the other eco products in this list.
PLUS toys, clothes, make up, electronics and much more.
They're based in Gateshead and have a handy little key to which brands are made in Britain.
2. Big Green Smile
Big Green Smile - based in Bucks - is very similar to Ethical Superstore.
I use both of them.
And do a bulk order every 3 months or so of my faves so I get free delivery.
I find it actually works out cheaper using both as they usually have offers on different stuff.
AND AND AND I find both of them work out quite a bit cheaper than Amazon.
AND a zillion times cheaper than the supermarket!
They make going green affordable to the average family.
3. Faith In Nature
My bulk orders always includes lovely stuff from Edinburgh based Faith In Nature.
They kind of took over where The Body Shop left off when they were bought out.
With planet friendly everyday toiletries.
But also a range of cleaning stuff. And planet friendly pet care!
I buy 5l bottles of their luscious lavender shower gel.
(Do buy a pump to decant easily).
And love their coconut conditioner for my very dry hair.
4. Bio-D
I love the story behind Bio-D who make everything they sell in Hull.
Founder Mike Barwell first got worried when he discovered the industrial chemicals he was using to clean ships were ALSO hiding in all the cleaning stuff under his kitchen sink!
NOT good.
Bio-D now sell eco friendly, hypo-allergenic household cleaners including a big laundry range.
We love their hand soap!
Especially the zingy lime one.
5. Ecozone
Next up in my list of British eco brands are my fellow Londoners Ecozone.
They have some clever eco friendly laundry products.
BUT my absolute fave products are their energy saving lightbulbs.
They are BRILLIANT! A beautiful bright white light.
That is fantastic if you suffer with SAD.
Now to be honest you can buy these cheaper on Amazon.
BUT it's more planet friendly to add to a big order from Big Green Smile.
6. Ecoleaf
Yorkshire based Ecoleaf has stellar eco and ethical credentials.
Their products are environmentally friendly, cruelty free AND fair trade.
So you can be sure the people growing the raw materials for their products are not being exploited.
They offer everything from dishwasher tablets and laundry liquid to recycled loo paper!
7. E-Cloth
My final fave British eco household brand is e-Cloth from Kent.
I totally LOVE their products. They are pure genius.
And although e-Cloth actually manufacture in Asia I've included them in this list BECAUSE these clever cloths actually cut out the need for bottles AND bottles of cleaning stuff!
Which means fewer planet-polluting planes and lorries lugging heavy liquids around.
I have their general cloths plus their window and oven cloths. AND their mop.
Together these babies save me money month in, month out because I use far fewer products.
How good is that?
