Hush. Hush.
Whisper who dares.
Christmas is only just round the corner.
Yikes!!! Help!!! Quick!!!
We should start shopping NOW …
Shouldn’t we?
So we don’t end up in the most almighty panic.
In December.
Without time to do anything.
And SO much stress.
We come close, close, close to cracking …
… and are left with a horrid lonely, little feeling.
We have lost the spirit of Christmas.
And the joy.
Forever.
But it IS still there.
We CAN find it.
Again.
Just NOT in getting organised in August.
Or buying up a whole warehouse full of presents no one truly wants from Amazon on Black Friday.
Because the true spirit of Christmas.
And that special joy.
We so treasure.
Is buried by our clutter.
And trampled by our busy lives.
And to rediscover it.
We need to create the space.
And make the time.
To cherish ourselves.
Give our hearts to others.
And find the forgiveness.
And peace.
For which we all truly long.
So today we’ll take the first steps in letting go of our Christmas clutter.
And making time for what really matters.
And over the next ten days we’ll continue the journey.
Letting go of more every day.
But also sharing our love, finding little ways to do good and caring for ourselves.
If you’re following along with my quick daily declutter, read on. BUT if you’re new do hop back and read how just 10 things can help you declutter easily.
Just 10 Things – Christmas Baubles
To start our Christmas declutter we do need to do things a little differently today.
Firstly, the one thing we NEVER do in just 10 things.
And that’s yank out our Christmas boxes.
From the attic or basement or garage.
Or wherever we keep them.
And find a little space where we can work through them easily.
BUT away as far as possible from prying eyes.
I’ve got mine on the far side of the bed.
Where they can’t be seen from the door.
THEN each day we’ll follow our usual rules to focus on a small part of our Christmas clutter so we don’t get overwhelmed …
- Take 5 minutes or so, 15 minutes max
- Focus on Christmas baubles
- Open our eyes to those that have had their day
- And without shuffling stuff around too much
- Spot any we’re ready to let go
Looking out in particular for …
- Smashed bits at the bottom of the box
- Cracked baubles
- Tarnished baubles
- Ones with broken unmendable hooks
- Too big
- Gifts you never liked
- No longer your style
- Ones kids made when they were little
- Ones you like least
- Too many the same colour
We can’t whizz through Christmas baubles too quickly.
As they are fiddly and breakable.
But don’t get bogged down, over thinking it.
Or day dreaming over fancy new Christmas tree styles 🙂
Just let go of the obvious.
Pop anything broken in the bin.
And any others in an empty box.
Which we’re going to fill up over the next ten days.
Then give away.
If you find 10 baubles wonderful.
But three’s fine too.
Over the next ten days all these little bits of Christmas clutter are going to add up.
And letting them go is a powerful prompt to reflecting on what truly matters in our lives.
So when we’re done with our baubles.
We’re going to take just 5 minutes more.
And remember what brings us most joy in your life.
It could be people. It could be a place. It could be a passtime.
It just can’t be a thing.
Don’t worry about writing them down.
Just remember the joy they bring.
And enjoy the moment.
