The bank holiday sun shone so we … one mum and one fairy queen with a broken wing … nipped on the 201 to Morden Hall Park.
We sauntered by the river Wandle.
Watched baby coots being fed by devoted parents.
Checked out the water wheel that powered an 18th century snuff mill.
Were impressed by the green loos in the stable block that have a basin on top of the cistern so the hand wash water is re-used.
And loved the hidden playground in the trees.
We went on everything.
Played hide and seek. And balanced on planks across a stream.
Idyllic. Impossible to believe we were still in London.
We stayed till closing time but were enjoying ourselves so much we didn’t make it up the Wandle trail to Dene City Farm and the working water mill at Merton Abbey Mills.
We’ll be back for another trip to check them out.
Plus there’s a bundle of stuff on over the holidays from outdoor theatre to camping out over night and wading in the Wandle.
Getting There :
We were lazy and got the 201 bus all the way ‘cos it goes from the end of our road all the way to Morden Hall Park. But it dawdles like anything through Streatham.
So next time we’ll be smarter and get the Thameslink to Mitcham Junction and then .. exciting .. the tram to the Belgrave Walk stop right by Morden Hall. 28 minutes from SE24, 40 from Blackfriars.
Grub :
We took a picnic but there is a cafe in the stable block area.
Do hope you have fun with the kids at Morden Hall Park.
