Did you hear?
That HALF of all food produce in the USA is thrown away every year?
Oh my goodness.
How crazy is that?
AND how much money is that costing us all?
Loads basically.
AND double crazy.
BECAUSE we spend so much time trying to find bargains and save money on fresh food.
Only to chuck it away.
Why do we all do it?
Well one BIG reason is we can’t actually see what’s in our fridge.
We jam it SO full.
And THEN because we don’t know what we’ve got, we buy more – just in case!
So today we’re going to create some space in our fridge.
So we can see clearly what we’ve got.
And be confident we do NOT need to go shopping!
If you’re following along with my quick daily declutter, read on. BUT if you’re new do hop back and read how just 10 things can help you declutter easily.
Just 10 Things – Fridge
As always we’ll stick to the just 10 things rules:
- Take 5 minutes or so, 15 minutes max
- Focus on the fridge
- Open our eyes to the actually expired stuff
- And without yanking everything out
- Letting stuff go
Look out for any of these that really can’t be eaten …
- Fruit
- Vegetable, salads & herbs
- Meat & fish
- Milk, butter & eggs
- Cheese & yoghurts
- Juices
- Deli stuff & dips
- Ready meals
- Leftovers
- Sauces & condiments
Now, obviously if your fridge is super crammed you are going to have to take stuff out.
BUT don’t turn it into a massive purge.
Remember the whole idea of just 10 things is to keep it short and sharp.
So we don’t get overwhelmed.
Once you’ve quickly cleared expired food, I’ve got a challenge for you.
Take just 5 more minutes.
And scribble down a rough meal plan for the week.
Based on what is IN the fridge.
Without going to the shops.
Don’t over think it.
Don’t make it fancy.
Just try and get through the week by eating the fridge.
You may have some slightly weird meals 😉
And a bit of moaning.
BUT by the end of the week the fridge will be so much easier to manage.
And you’ll be able to see what you truly need.
And just buy that.
