Clutter’s weird isn’t it?
It’s all around us and overwhelming.
BUT most of the time we can NOT see it.
Not the individual items BECAUSE there’s just so much of it.
Our brains have to black them out.
To cope with it all day by day.
And the thing is, if we whack the lights on all at once and try and see ALL our clutter for what it is, we just crumple.
We have TOO much.
So the just-10-things declutter method is like a spot light.
Every day we shine it on ONE small area.
And see clearly the stuff we can let go.
WITHOUT getting overwhelmed.
Now, curiously one area of clutter for lots of us IS lighting.
We really don’t like the dark, do we, us humans?
And we end up with lights of all sorts and lanterns and torches and light bulbs galore.
That we NEVER switch on.
So today we’re going to turn our spot light on lighting itself and let go of the lights that have been left too long in the dark …
If you’re following along with my quick daily declutter, read on. BUT if you’re new do hop back and read how just 10 things can help you declutter easily.
Just 10 Things – Lights
As always we’ll stick to the just 10 things rules:
- Take 5 minutes or so, 15 minutes max
- Focus on lights
- Open our eyes to those we never switch on
- And without yanking stuff out
- Spot any we’re ready to let go
Keeping our eyes out for …
- Shades
- Ceiling lights
- Wall lights
- Floor lamps
- Desk lamps
- Table lamps
- Kids lights
- SAD lights
- Cabinet lights
- Bathroom lights
Now lots of this stuff really is in plain sight.
It’s not in a box or cupboard.
It’s on display.
We’ve just stopped noticing it.
So have a quick wander around the house with your eyes open.
That floor lamp hogging space in the living room.
Do you ever turn it on?
And what about …
… the desk lamp stealing your work space?
… the little lamp toppling off your bedside table?
Wouldn’t it be nice to get the space back?
Wouldn’t that reclaimed space actually make your home feel a whole lot lighter?
Give it a go and see.
