Just 10 Things – 61 Socks

July 23, 2018 by Alice Leave a Comment

Declutter all those odd socks and enjoy a clutter free sock drawer #declutter #clutterfreehome #organize

You’ve heard about the sock trick, right?

Where apparently.

IF you fold your socks just right.

And give them lots of wiggle room.

Your clutter WILL magically disappear!

Hmmm … it didn’t work for me either.

BUT that is still NO reason.

To keep our drawers stuffed with odd socks.

Socks with holes in.

Lovely fancy socks that shrunk.

Or those really horrid gnarled up, bobbly ones you’d rather go barefoot than actually wear.

Because they ALL help make the simple act of grabbing a pair of socks a major mission.

With half of them tipped on the floor.

And us cursing the day before we’re even out of the house in the morning!

So today we’re going to declutter our sock drawer.

And let go those we never wear.

If you’re following along with my quick daily declutter, read on. BUT if you’re new do hop back and read how just 10 things can help you declutter easily.

Just 10 Things  – Socks

We’ll stick to the just 10 things rules today:

  • Take 5 minutes or so, 15 minutes max
  • Focus on our sock drawer
  • Open our eyes to those we never wear
  • And without yanking them all out
  • Spot any we’re ready to let go

Keeping our eyes peeled for all of these …

  1. Odd
  2. Holey
  3. Shrunk
  4. Outgrown
  5. Sports … last worn 15 years ago!
  6. Grubby
  7. Woolly … sadly, too often shrunk 🙁
  8. Bed … does anyone still wear these?
  9. Ankle … if they don’t sit comfy
  10. Knee highs … if they’re just not you

Pop them in a bag and get them to fabric recycling.

If you can.

Don’t be tempted to keep them for “crafting”.

UNLESS you have an immediate project on the go you WILL actually use them in.

Hopefully you’ll lose quite a few pairs quickly.

A big well done for all those you let go.

But for an extra little nudge read on.

A Little Nudge

We all have our fave don’t we?

Even in our sock drawer.

The ones we’d wear every day if we could.

And I’ve got a little extra trick for you.

That will help you wear them more often.

AND have your sock drawer looking lovely.

Simply pick out your 10 fave pairs quickly.

And put them together in the drawer.

Shove any others in a plastic bag in a corner of the drawer.

They don’t need wiggle room!!

Then every day just chose from your faves.

At the end of the day.

Make sure they go in the laundry basket.

Do NOT leave lying around the house.

At the end of the week make sure they get washed.

AND put back in their special space.

And repeat.

After a few weeks – or even a month – you’ll know you do NOT need those in the bag.

And you can ditch the whole bag.

WITHOUT going through it.

Because you know you have 10 great pairs of socks you actually feel comfortable wearing.

It’s a simple trick.

But as you get more confident with your daily declutter you can use it more and more.

Every day.

Let go of any no-brainers.

But then focus on your faves.

And put them together.

In a drawer or on a shelf.

Shoving the rest to the side.

Then try just to use your faves.

For a fortnight. Or a month.

And prove to yourself.

You can live happily without the other stuff.

Then you can just let the rest go.

In one fell swoop.

And cut really deeply into your clutter.

WITHOUT going through it item by item.

Now you don’t have to use this trick.

But if you’re speeding along with just 10 things.

And want to declutter even deeper.

This is a super powerful quick extra.

I hope today's gentle declutter prompt helped.
