Comfort clothes. Cardigans and the like.
We ALL have them don't we?
And there are days, they are SO right BUT ...
... for all those comfort clothes we love AND wear, we have ten or twenty more we don't.
EVER.
And however comforting they seemed in that moment we bought them.
They are NOT comforting shoved away in our drawers.
They ARE clutter.
And clutter - for most of us - is ANYTHING but comforting.
It's overwhelming. It's depressing.
It makes a prison of our own homes.
So today we're going to let go of all those unworn cardigans and other knitwear we thought would be comforting but aren't.
AND do one little thing for ourselves that truly us brings comfort ...
If you're following along with my quick daily declutter, read on. BUT if you're new do hop back and read how just 10 things can help you declutter easily.
Just 10 Things - Knitwear
As always we'll stick to the just 10 things rules:
- Take 5 minutes or so, 15 minutes max
- Focus on knitwear
- Open our eyes to those that don't bring comfort
- And without yanking stuff out
- Spot any we're ready to let go
Keeping our eyes peeled for ...
- Cardigans
- Tank tops
- Hooded
- Ponchos
- Shrugs
- Vests
- Jackets
- Capes
- Wrap overs
- Shawls
Well done for everything you let go. It all adds up.
And most of it today can go straight in our charity bag with our sweaters from yesterday and jeans from the day before.
So it's nice and easy to get out of our homes.
Once we're done, we are going to take a moment to do something that will really bring us comfort.
And THAT is to do something good - just one tiny thing - for someone else.
Which might sound surprising.
As we've all got it into our head that indulging ourselves is what makes us happy.
But as we know from ALL our clutter it doesn't.
What really makes us happy, what really brings comfort, is having a purpose.
And knowing we can - in simple, little ways - make a difference for others.
It can be a thank you. A thinking of you note. An offer of help.
Or just picking up some litter we didn't drop.
Tiny things.
But they help other people know that they matter.
And wonderfully, in doing so help us know we do to.
And that's the most powerful comfort of all.
