MEDICAL DISCLAIMER
This post does not give qualified medical advice. Headaches can be a sign of serious illness.
Common Headache Causes

Headaches are usually a symptom of a problem elsewhere in a body.
So treating our headache with painkillers makes no sense. We may get quick relief but the headache will come back because we haven't tackled the underlying cause.
In fact, it is crazier than that, as painkillers make things worse.
Three key causes of headaches are:
- Gut damage
- Inflammation
- Stress.
But repeated use of painkillers to ease headache pain can:
- Damage our gut lining
- Which triggers inflammation
- Which causes stress!!!
So whilst using the herbal headache teas in this post, do look for real remedies for other symptoms e.g.:
- Constipation
- Perimenopause
- Bloating
- Gastritis
- Blocked Sinuses
- UTI & Bladder Infections
- Period Pain
- Colds
- Lack of Sleep
- Stress
And if you are struggling to spot the causes of your headaches check out this guide to surprising headache triggers including magnesium and iron deficiency.
Remember : recurrent headaches can be symptoms of serious illness. Always talk to your doctor.
Now onto the quick headache teas.

You do NOT need to buy any fancy headache teas or essential oils!!
1. Ginger Tea For Stress & Tension Headaches

Ginger tea relieves stress and tension headaches by relaxing blood vessels.
It's also a natural remedy for gastritis, constipation and cystitis so can provide long term relief if these are a cause of your headaches.
To make ginger headache tea:
- Add to a cup or so of water:
- a sliced inch of ginger root
- or a teaspoon of dried ginger
- Bring to the boil
- Simmer gently for 15 minutes
- Strain & add a teaspoon or so of lemon and honey to taste.
This makes a strong ginger tea which is great for a bad headache.
For a gentler ginger headache tea, bring water to boil and steep ginger in the boiled water for a few minutes.
Ginger headache tea can exacerbate heartburn by over relaxing the LES.
